The Evolution of Muscle Testing

What is Epigenetic Muscle Testing?

Every generation of muscle testing built on the one before it, each pioneer reaching a little further into the body's intelligence.

This is a tribute to that lineage, and a look at where it has arrived. Epigenetic Muscle Testing is the most sophisticated iteration of muscle testing yet, and it is still evolving. Follow the timeline to see how we got here.

The timeline is still being written. Biofield Testing continues to evolve, and each new discovery adds another marker to this line.

The Current Evolution

So, What Is Epigenetic Muscle Testing?

It is the next and current evolution of muscle testing. Instead of asking a single organ or reflex point, Epigenetic Muscle Testing uses subtle-energy vials, each one representing a specific input such as a toxin, an organ, an emotion, an allergen, or a piece of genetics, to hold a quantum conversation with the body's Biofield. With BFT, a practitioner can ask hundreds or even thousands of questions at once which the field filters through to the most important part. This is what we call as epigenetic based muscle testing.

Biofield Testing is a proprietary advanced modification of epigenetic muscle testing developed by Dr. Frank Springob in 2009. We consider him the pioneer of the modality. It allows practitioners to identify client's health issues and deliver confident, precise solutions in a systematic and fundamental way. Rather than testing physical strength, it reads the nervous system's energetic response to identify what the body actually needs.

The Method

The Method of Biofield Testing

01
Measure

Quantify the size and balance of the Biofield to set an objective baseline.

02
Identify

Let the client's biofield determine the exact challenge it is ready to acknowledge.

03
Confirm

Verify the correct solution and the proper dose.

Why It Outperforms What Came Before

Every earlier method reached for more information and less guesswork. Epigenetic Muscle Testing is where that pursuit arrives.

Analyzes far more information

Every preceding muscle testing modality is limited in the amount of information it can pull at one time. Epigenetic Muscle Testing is a vast leap forward.

Finds the current challenge first

Surfaces the specific layer the body is on now, before moving to the next.

Fast, not time-consuming

No hundred-test marathons. The field gives clear answers in minutes.

Gives proper dosing

Not just the right solution, but the right amount of it for this client.

Confirmation built in

The field confirms the right solution, so you act with certainty.

Fully repeatable

A consistent, teachable system, not intuition you can't hand down.

Comprehensive with the Unwinds

Paired with the Brain, Emotional, and Allergy Unwinds, it can address multiple layers of health concerns.

Learnable by anyone

No prior background required. If you want to learn it, you can.

More information, less guesswork, and a system you can repeat, confirm, and teach. That is why it is not your grandfather's muscle testing.

The Science Behind It

Standing on the Shoulders of Discovery

Epigenetic Muscle Testing draws on decades of research into how the body stores, expresses, and communicates information beyond the reach of conventional testing.

Dr. Bruce Lipton
Epigenetics

His work on epigenetics revealed that the vast majority of disease is driven not by our genes alone, but by the signals our environment sends them, the foundation of testing at the epigenetic level.

Dr. Fritz-Albert Popp
Biophoton Research

His discovery of biophotons, the light emitted by living cells, helped establish that the body communicates through an energetic field, not chemistry alone.

Dr. Candace Pert
Neuropeptide Research

Her research on neuropeptides showed that emotions are biochemical events distributed throughout the entire body, bridging mind, emotion, and physiology.

Autumn Smith
The Question That Started It

A nutritional therapy assistant whose question, "Why not talk to the cells and catch things sooner?", sparked the shift into the Biofield in 2009.

"It's like going from a World Book Encyclopedia to the World Wide Web. Each generation of informational science made the previous one obsolete."

Applied Kinesiology was the first form of muscle testing ever discovered, developed by Dr. George Goodheart Jr. in 1964. He found that skeletal muscles share nervous system connections with the internal organs, meaning that by testing the muscles, a practitioner could draw information about the organs as well. This breakthrough was revolutionary in the healing arts, and the muscle-organ connection became Applied Kinesiology's foundational information source. Practitioners used manual muscle testing to assess the body's structural, chemical, and emotional health, identifying imbalances and guiding care, whether nutritional, structural, or energetic, without extensive lab testing. However, a comprehensive assessment required over a hundred individual muscle tests and could take up to two hours to complete, making it a powerful but demanding system that would ultimately need to evolve.
Contact Reflex Analysis was developed by Dr. Dick Versendaal, a student of Dr. George Goodheart Jr., who built upon the foundation of Applied Kinesiology in the 1980s. Dr. Versendaal discovered that energetically active acupuncture points correlated with weakened muscle responses, and this acupuncture point-to-muscle connection became CRA's information source. He believed CRA was more specific and easier to learn than Applied Kinesiology, and it represented a meaningful step forward in the evolution of muscle testing. However, like its predecessor, the acupuncture point connection could not gather information with the depth, speed, or specificity that would eventually be made possible by accessing the human Biofield directly, making further evolution necessary.
Autonomic Response Testing was developed by Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt in the 1990s as the next evolution in muscle testing methodology. Building on the work of Dr. Goodheart and Dr. Versendaal, Dr. Klinghardt introduced a refined approach by applying slight pressure over acupuncture reflexes during the muscle test, which he believed enhanced the quality and accuracy of the information being gathered. ART was a significant contribution to the field and advanced the precision of energetic assessment. Yet the underlying information source, the acupuncture point connection, still placed limits on how much a practitioner could learn from a client and how quickly they could do so. This limitation pointed toward the need for a deeper, broader information source, one that could only be found in the human Biofield.
Epigenetic Muscle Testing within the Biofield was developed by Dr. Frank Springob beginning in 2009 and represents the most significant leap forward in the history of muscle testing. The origin of the idea came from a brilliant question posed by Dr. Springob's nutritional therapy assistant, Autumn Smith, who asked: "Why do we talk to the organs? Why not talk to the cells and catch things sooner?" That question changed everything. In order to access information at the cellular level, Dr. Springob discovered that testing had to move out of specific reflex points and into the energy field surrounding the body, the Biofield. Rather than asking one organ what it thinks, Biofield Testing holds a quantum conversation with the person's entire biological system at once, accessing their environment, genetics, emotional patterns, toxic load, and nutritional deficiencies simultaneously. Dr. Springob trademarked this method as Morphogenic Field Technique, or MFT, later known as Biofield Testing, and it has since been validated in formal research at A.T. Still University, the world's first osteopathic institution, where 52 subjects demonstrated 100 percent improvement in Heart Rate Variability following Biofield Expansion. This represented a complete paradigm shift in the muscle testing evolution.
The Brain Unwind Experience, developed in 2017 by Dr. Frank Springob and Dr. Nick Lamothe, marked the beginning of the Unwind series within Biofield Testing. The development process began with brain circuit work using bio resonator vials encoded with specific brain energies, where the Biofield itself was consulted to determine which energies the brain needed at any given session. What began as 12 posture-related energies grew into a system of over 1,000 energies spanning emotional, immune, detox, and neurological systems. Dr. Frank's own experience with the Brain Unwind was striking: after consistent sessions he found that his lifelong need for driving glasses had resolved, a change he did not anticipate and which pointed to the profound neurological impact of the work. The Brain Unwind became the first program offered in the online curriculum and laid the groundwork for everything that followed.
Following the completion of the Human Genome Project, Dr. Frank Springob introduced the next major evolution within Biofield Testing: the incorporation of genetic-based information sources directly into the testing procedure. This advancement, trademarked by the Biofield Testing Academy as Energenomics, added an entirely new dimension to what the field could reveal. Where prior systems accessed organ reflexes and later cellular energies, Energenomics enabled testing at the subcellular level, including SNPs and even codons, the fundamental building blocks of genetic expression. Combined with the environmental and cellular information already accessible through the Biofield, practitioners could now hold a quantum conversation with a person's genetics in real time, without lab tests and without guesswork. The result was a system drawing from three layers simultaneously: environmental information, cellular information, and genetic-based information. Dr. Frank Springob has described this journey as similar to moving from a World Book Encyclopedia to the World Wide Web. Each generation of informational science made the previous one obsolete. Energenomics is the current frontier of that progression, and it is why Biofield Testing is not your grandfather's muscle testing.
The Emotional Unwind Experience was developed in 2021 through a collaborative effort led by Dr. Frank Springob, along with Kelly Miller and Lauren. The process required dedicated research, including a full weekend spent energetically matching and testing emotional frequencies. The result was a system of 30 vials, each containing three energetically related emotions, yielding 90 distinct emotional frequencies in total. During a session, a practitioner identifies which vial group is most relevant, then determines which specific emotion within that group is the priority, and clears one, two, or all three as directed by the Biofield. This approach was intentionally distinct from other emotional clearing systems on the market, offering greater breadth and precision by drawing directly from the client's own energetic field rather than relying on a fixed protocol.
The Allergy Unwind Experience, developed in 2023 by Dr. Frank Springob, Kelly Miller, and Dr. Nick Lamothe, was born from a foundational insight: allergies are not the root problem. Dr. Frank long held that the real issue is the immune system's failure to tolerate the allergen, making it fundamentally an autoimmune response rather than a reaction to the substance itself. This philosophy shaped the entire design of the Allergy Unwind. Rather than treating the allergen in isolation, the procedure identifies the allergen, locates the underlying immune dysfunction, matches the two, and performs a clearing that addresses the body's misdirected immune response. The result is a streamlined, energetically guided protocol that works with the Biofield to resolve what conventional allergy approaches often only manage.
